Work-Study - Liebherr
In September 2024, I joined the network team at Liebherr France EMT for a two-year period.
My Missions
The daily routine of a network administrator involves various tasks, some of which are simple daily tasks, while others are long-term projects.
Short-term tasks
These tasks are very diverse and include:
- Resolving connectivity issues
- Meeting evolution needs:
- Replacing outdated equipment
- Adding new equipment
Required skills
- Adapting to unknown situations
- Making quick decisions that will have a positive long-term impact
A short-term mission
To enable effective micro-segmentation, we needed to capture traffic on the entire production network without disrupting it and without deploying costly means. I was tasked with finding a solution to this problem and implementing it. To achieve this, I used Cisco's E-Rspan solution, which allows traffic to be captured from a given source and sent to an IP address, preventing the traffic from being sent across the entire network.
Long-term projects
In this context, I worked on several long-term projects, including:
DNS/DHCP Microsoft Services Overhaul and Study
My objectives
- Understanding the current functioning
- Identifying problems
- Finding best practices for LFR Colmar
- Implementing these best practices
Required skills
- Knowledge of network protocols
- Setting up a test environment
- Ability to identify business needs
- MS/AD administration
As part of network security, I was tasked with overhauling the DNS and DHCP services we use at LFR Colmar. The first step was to understand the current functioning of these services within the company and identify the various problems. In the second step, we needed to define the future rules for these services. Once the tests were conclusive, we will deploy these new rules while ensuring continuity of service for users.
Participation in the Migration to Cisco SDN
My objectives
- Creating DHCP scopes
- DHCP reservations + DNS entries
- Migrating equipment to DHCP
Required skills
- Knowledge of network protocols
- Ability to meet functional constraints
- Ability to communicate with all profiles
As part of the new factory in Nambsheim, LFR Colmar was chosen to provide a "model to follow". One of the network team's choices was to turn to Cisco solutions for the LAN, including Cisco SDA with Identity Services Engine (ISE) for managing network access rights. Cisco Catalyst Center will be used for global and automated network administration, which will become essential for having a "Cisco Defined Network" that enables micro-segmentation.
